Accretive Health Inc

A Chicago-based company that handles the behind-the-scenes money work for hospitals and health systems — everything from patient registration and medical coding to billing and insurance follow-up, so providers actually get paid for the care they deliver. Founded in 2003 by Mary Tolan, a former Accenture executive, it was originally incorporated as Healthcare Services, Inc. before taking the name Accretive Health in 2009 — a finance term meaning "growing by gradual additions," chosen to signal its focus on boosting hospital revenue. In 2017 the company rebranded as R1 RCM, a nod to its "Revenue First" strategy, and it still operates under that name today.
