A British telecommunications company, BT Group supplies broadband, mobile, and fixed-line services to homes and businesses across the UK, mainly through its EE and BT brands, and builds the country's biggest phone and internet network through its Openreach division. Its roots reach back to the world's first public telegraph company, founded in 1846 and later folded into the General Post Office. The name "BT" simply shortens "British Telecom," the brand created in 1980 when the phone arm was split from the Post Office—making BT one of the oldest communications firms on Earth.
