Direct Line Insurance Group Plc
A British general insurer that sells car, home, pet, travel, and business cover straight to customers by phone and online, plus through price-comparison sites. It was born in 1985 as the insurance arm of the Royal Bank of Scotland and became the UK's first telephone-only insurer, pioneering the "direct" model that gave it its name. Its cheerful red telephone mascot, first introduced in 1989, once even shared the screen with a red mouse before the phone reclaimed the spotlight.
