A British merchant bank that lends to businesses and individuals that big high-street banks often overlook, offering asset finance, invoice finance, and motor finance for new and used cars bought through dealers. It traces back to 1878, when William Brooks Close and his brothers started out lending farm mortgages in Sioux City, Iowa, before moving to London. One unexpected twist: in 1897 the firm helped build the White Pass and Yukon Route railway in Alaska and the Yukon.
