Calbee Inc
A maker of beloved Japanese snacks, Calbee produces potato chips, shrimp crackers, and other treats sold across Japan and beyond. Its best-known products include Kappa Ebisen, a crispy shrimp-flavored cracker made with whole shrimp, and Jaga Pokkuru, a Hokkaido potato snack. Founded in Hiroshima in 1949 by Takashi Matsuo, the company's name blends "calcium" and "vitamin B1," two nutrients the founder felt postwar Japan needed. The Jaga Pokkuru name playfully nods to the Koropokkuru, fairy-like beings from Ainu folklore said to secretly leave food for humans.
