A stock exchange in the United Arab Emirates, the Dubai Financial Market runs an electronic marketplace where investors trade equities, bonds, sukuk (Islamic bonds), and exchange-traded funds, with a digital app called iVESTOR for managing portfolios. Founded in 2000 by a decree from the Government of Dubai, it began as the UAE's first official exchange and later became a public company trading on its own market. In Arabic it is called Sūq Dubayy al-Mālī—its name recalling the traditional souq, or marketplace—and it was the first exchange in the world established to operate under Islamic Sharia principles.
