Grupo Financiero Banorte S.a.b. De C.v.

One of Mexico's largest locally owned financial groups, Banorte runs a full-service bank serving everyday consumers and businesses across the country with accounts, credit, insurance, and retirement plans. Its roots reach back to 1899, when Banco Mercantil de Monterrey was founded, later merging with Banco Regional del Norte in the 1980s to create Banco Mercantil del Norte—whose initials spell "Banorte." A fun twist: when the group was privatized in 1992, it was bought by Roberto González Barrera, the "King of Tortillas" behind the Maseca corn-flour brand.
