It was founded in 2007 in Tel Aviv after co-founder Or Offer, frustrated growing his family's jewelry business online, wished he could find "similar" sites to his own — which is exactly where the name comes from. Its free browser extension, launched in 2013, lets anyone check a website's traffic and ranking with a click.
