A Japanese internet giant that runs LINE, one of the country's most-used messaging apps, alongside the Yahoo! JAPAN portal, online shopping, and the PayPay digital wallet used by millions. It formed in 2023 when Z Holdings merged its LINE and Yahoo! Japan businesses, and the name "LY" simply blends the initials of those two brands. A fun twist: LINE itself was born after the 2011 earthquake and tsunami knocked out phone networks, when engineers built a data-based messaging app to help people reach loved ones.
