Koninklijke Dsm N.v.
A science-based maker of vitamins, nutrients, flavors, and fragrances that go into food, supplements, and medicines around the world. It began in 1902 as Dutch State Mines, a government-run coal miner in the Netherlands, and its name still carries that acronym even after the mines closed. A fun twist: in the 1930s it started turning ammonia, a coal-mining byproduct, into fertilizer — the pivot that carried it far beyond coal.
