A maker of cloud-based point-of-sale and commerce software, Lightspeed helps independent retailers, restaurants, and golf courses run their stores, take orders, and sell online and in person from one platform. It was founded in 2005 by programmer Dax Dasilva in a small Montreal apartment, where he built a Mac-friendly alternative to the clunky Windows-based systems of the day. The name "Lightspeed" reflects his goal of making checkout fast and simple for small businesses.
