One of New Zealand's best-loved websites, Trade Me is the country's online marketplace and classifieds platform, where everyday Kiwis buy and sell everything from cars and real estate to jobs and secondhand goods through auctions and fixed-price listings. It was founded in 1999 when Wellington IT worker Sam Morgan, frustrated by outdated newspaper classifieds while trying to buy a heater for his cold flat, built the site in about six weeks. The name simply invites people to "trade me," and it grew so iconic that it became a common noun in New Zealand speech.
