A maker of bio-fabricated materials, Zymergen engineered microbes with machine learning and robotics to "brew" chemicals and films for electronics, agriculture, and consumer goods. Founded in 2013 by a biophysicist, a biochemist, and an investment banker, its name blends zymurgy (the science of fermentation), merge, and genomics. Its Hyaline film, made for foldable smartphones, was touted as the first fermented electronic product.
