A provider of life insurance and retirement annuities, American National helps Americans plan for retirement with products like fixed indexed annuities. It was founded in 1905 in Galveston, Texas, by banker and cotton magnate William Lewis Moody Jr., who dreamed of building an institution built to last five centuries and saw it grow into what was dubbed the "Giant of the South." Its life insurance business now operates as a subsidiary under the American National Group holding company.
