Fei Company

A maker of electron microscopes and nanoscale imaging tools, FEI built the scanning and transmission electron microscopes (SEMs and TEMs) that scientists and chipmakers use to see and shape matter far too small for the naked eye. It was founded in 1971 as the Field Electron and Ion Company, and later merged with Philips Electron Optics, which is how its name became simply FEI. Today it lives on as part of Thermo Fisher Scientific, after the two companies joined forces in 2016.
