A Russian oil and gas giant, Rosneft explores, drills, refines, and sells petroleum products to customers around the world from its Moscow headquarters. The Russian government created it in 1993 to gather up the oil assets left over after the Soviet Union broke up, and its name blends the Russian words for "Russian" and "oil." Fun fact: although the modern company was born in 1993, it traces its roots back to 1889, when oil exploration first began on Sakhalin Island.
