Health Net Inc

A managed health care insurer that sells health plans to individuals, families, and businesses, and runs government programs like Medicare and Medi-Cal. It was founded in 1977 by Blue Cross of Southern California as a nonprofit HMO, and its name comes from its original title, "Health Maintenance Network of Southern California." After a state-ordered conversion to for-profit in 1992 and a series of mergers, it became part of Centene Corporation in 2016.
