Broadcom Corporation

A designer of the silicon chips that quietly run much of the internet and home tech, Broadcom makes the processors inside Wi-Fi routers, cable modems, set-top boxes, and data-center networking gear that power everything from home streaming to cloud networks. It began in 1991 when two UCLA-linked engineers, Henry Samueli and Henry Nicholas, set out to build chips for broadband communications—the portmanteau behind the name "Broadcom." The company even roots back further, to a semiconductor division of Hewlett-Packard spun out decades earlier, which eventually merged in to form today's giant.
