Kinder Morgan Energy Partners, L.p.

One of North America's largest energy infrastructure companies, Kinder Morgan operates tens of thousands of miles of pipelines moving natural gas, oil, and other fuels, plus storage terminals — earning fees like a toll road rather than selling the fuel itself. It was founded in 1997 by Richard Kinder and William Morgan, who bought Enron's liquid pipeline assets after Kinder left that firm. The name is simply the two founders' surnames, and the company was born from the very firm that later collapsed in scandal.
