Biomed Realty Trust, Inc.
A maker of specialized laboratory and office space for life-science and tech industries, BioMed Realty Trust builds and leases the wet labs and complex facilities that biotech, pharmaceutical, and research companies need. Founded in 2004 in San Diego by Alan Gold and Gary Kreitzer, it got its name from "Bio" for biomedical, "Med" for medical, and "Realty" for real estate. Taken private by Blackstone in 2016, its founders built it after noticing ordinary offices couldn't handle lab tenants' needs.
Common Stock — Acquired by Blackstone Real Estate Partners VIII in January 2016, delisted from NYSE
