A retail real-estate investment trust that owned and ran shopping centers and enclosed malls across the United States, Washington Prime Group began in 2014 as a spin-off of Simon Property Group, the giant behind premium malls and outlet centers. Its name nodded to the "prime" quality of its retail properties, and after buying Glimcher Realty Trust it briefly called itself WP Glimcher before reverting. After filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2021, the company sold off its remaining malls and formally wound down in 2026.
