Mocon Inc.

A maker of gas measurement and analysis instruments, MOCON builds the permeation testers that measure how much oxygen, water vapor, and carbon dioxide pass through food, beverage, and pharmaceutical packaging. Physicist Howard (Les) Demorest started the company in his Minneapolis home basement in 1963, incorporating it as Modern Controls in 1966—hence the name MOCON. Its instruments became so standard that industry professionals still call permeation rates "MOCON numbers."
