Tessera Holding Corp

A technology company that develops semiconductor packaging and imaging technologies, licensing its inventions rather than building chips itself — its work helps power miniaturized electronics. Founded in 1990 by three scientists from IBM's research center, it grew through acquisitions including DigitalOptics, a maker of camera optics for phones. The name comes from "tessera," the ancient Latin term for the small tiles that snap together into a mosaic — a fitting image for the tiny components that assemble into today's electronics. The company later rebranded as Xperi.
