Microsemi Corp

A maker of rugged semiconductor chips built to survive extreme conditions, Microsemi supplied the aerospace, defense and industrial markets with everything from diodes to field-programmable gate arrays. It was founded in 1959 in California as Microsemiconductor Corporation, later shortening its name to Microsemi in 1983. The name is simply a shortened mashup of the original—and the company grew by folding in rivals like Unitrode and Actel before being absorbed by Microchip Technology in 2018.
