Micro Focus International Plc
A software company that helped large organizations keep aging mainframe and legacy systems running, Micro Focus built tools and compilers around the COBOL programming language. It was founded in 1976 by Brian Reynolds, who opened his first office in a lean-to beside his home in Notting Hill, London. In 1981 it became the first company ever to win the Queen's Award for Industry purely for a software product, and in 2023 it was folded into the Canadian firm OpenText.
