Au Optronics Corp

A Taiwanese maker of the display panels that light up televisions, computer monitors, laptops, and car dashboards, now rebranded as AUO Corporation. Born in 2001 when Acer Display Technology and Unipac Optoelectronics merged, it later absorbed Quanta Display to grow into one of the world's largest panel suppliers. Its name is a pun of sorts: "AU" simply stitches the first letters of the two founding companies, Acer and Unipac.
