A global insurance and asset management group based in Paris, AXA sells home, motor, life, health, and retirement coverage to individuals and businesses, and manages investments for clients. Its roots reach back to mutual fire-insurance societies founded in Rouen, France in the early 1800s. The name "AXA" was adopted in 1985 after a computer-aided search for a word with no meaning in any language, so it would sound the same everywhere.
