Clariant AG

A Swiss specialty chemicals maker headquartered near Basel, Clariant produces additives, catalysts, and care-chemical ingredients used in everything from plastics and coatings to personal-care and cleaning products. It was born in 1995 when pharmaceutical giant Sandoz spun off its chemicals division, then grew by buying Hoechst's specialty chemicals business two years later. The name was chosen to signal "clarity" about the new company's independent future.
