Sterlite Industries (india) Limited

A metal and mining company born from a scrap business that Anil Agarwal started in Mumbai in 1976. After buying a cable maker called Shamsher Sterling Corporation in 1979, he renamed it Sterlite Industries in 1986, then grew from making cables into smelting and mining copper, aluminium and zinc. In 2013 Sterlite merged with other group firms into one company later renamed Vedanta Limited — so today's Vedanta traces its roots back to this scrappy cable startup.

American Depositary Shares (each representing four equity shares) — Acquired by Vedanta Limited in August 2013; merged into Sesa Sterlite (now Vedanta Ltd)
