Kmg Chemicals, Inc.
A maker of specialty chemicals for two very different worlds: wood preservation and electronics. KMG produced pentachlorophenol and creosote to protect utility poles and railroad ties, plus high-purity sulfuric acid and hydrogen peroxide used to etch and clean semiconductor chips. Founded in 1991 in Houston, Texas, the company grew by buying up chemical businesses and was later folded into a larger specialty-chemicals group. Its name comes from the initials of its founding partners, a quiet nod to the people who started it.
