General Communication Inc
A telecommunications company that is one of Alaska's largest providers of internet, cable TV, wireless, and business services under the brand GCI. Founded in 1979 in Anchorage by businessman Ron Duncan, it took the name "General Communication" to reflect its aim of bringing general, broad communications services to the state. A fun fact: GCI built Alaska's first statewide high-speed fiber network, spanning the rugged terrain from the mainland to remote communities, and its name is often simply pronounced as "GCI."
