A Houston-based maker of offshore drilling and production equipment, Dril-Quip builds the heavy machinery that keeps deepwater oil and gas wells safe and flowing, including subsea wellheads, blowout preventers, and connectors used by energy firms around the globe. The company was founded in 1981 and its name blends "drilling" with "equipment." One quirk: its engineers also developed specialty tools and riser systems that help connect drilling rigs to the seafloor, work that takes them into some of the deepest waters on Earth.
