A maker of software that helps big companies track and control their technology spending—think a dashboard that shows exactly what IT and cloud services cost and where the money goes. Founded in 2007 by Sunny Gupta and two co-founders, the company essentially invented the field of Technology Business Management, and its name blends "applications" and "IT." As a fun twist, Apptio was the very first investment ever made by the famous Silicon Valley venture firm Andreessen Horowitz. IBM bought the company in 2023.
