Headquartered in Portland, Oregon, this utility holding company delivers natural gas through its NW Natural arm to roughly two million people across Oregon, Southwest Washington, and Texas, while NW Natural Water also runs water and wastewater systems. It began in 1859 as the Portland Gas Light Company, founded by two Astoria store pioneers just weeks before Oregon became a state — making it the first gas company in the Pacific Northwest and the third on the West Coast.
