Dyax was a biopharmaceutical company that made KALBITOR, an injectable medicine used to stop the painful swelling attacks of a rare inherited condition called hereditary angioedema. It took its name in 1995, when a merger of Biotage and Protein Engineering Corporation created the Cambridge, Massachusetts firm. Its science leaned on a quirky technique called phage display, which uses the shells of harmless bacteria viruses to help uncover new drug candidates.
