Synageva Biopharma Corp
A biopharmaceutical company that began in 1996 as AviGenics, a University of Georgia startup that engineered chickens to produce human therapeutic proteins inside their egg whites. After a new chief executive arrived in 2008, it pivoted to making medicines for rare diseases and renamed itself Synageva, going on to develop a drug for lysosomal acid lipase deficiency before being absorbed into Alexion Pharmaceuticals.
