Enbridge Energy Partners, L.p.
An operator of crude oil and natural gas liquid pipelines, this partnership moved oil from producing fields like the Bakken to refineries across the U.S. Midwest. It grew out of the Lakehead Pipe Company, the American arm of a pipeline business founded by Imperial Oil in 1949 after the Leduc, Alberta oil strike—the name "Lakehead" came from its terminus at Superior, Wisconsin, the "head of the lakes." It was folded back into its parent, Enbridge, in late 2018.
