Gordmans Stores, Inc.
A U.S. off-price discount retailer that sold brand-name clothing, shoes, home decor, bedding, jewelry, and gifts at bargain prices, with frequently changing inventory that shoppers likened to a "treasure hunt." It began in 1915 in Omaha, Nebraska, when Russian immigrant Sam Richman opened a clothing store called "Richman's, Outfitters to the Family." A few decades later, a New Yorker named Dan Gordman—whose car broke down on his way to California—became Richman's partner and married his daughter; the business eventually took the name Gordmans.
