Iteris, Inc.

A maker of "electronic eyes" for roads, Iteris builds the video and radar sensors, software, and traffic-management systems that cities use to keep intersections moving and travelers informed. Its roots stretch back to Odetics, a California firm founded in 1969, and it helped pioneer video-based vehicle detection plus the 511 traveler-information lines. The name comes from the Latin "iter," meaning journey or path — a fitting label for a company that watches over the daily commute.
