American Public Education Inc

A company offering online and campus-based education for working adults and adult learners, from active-duty military and veterans to nursing students. Its American Public University serves military and public-service students almost entirely online, while Rasmussen University and Hondros College of Nursing teach nursing and health-sciences degrees at campuses and online. It began in 1991, when retired Marine Corps Major James Etter founded American Military University so service members could earn degrees while deployed; a civilian arm, American Public University, came later. Fun fact: Rasmussen University started in 1900 as a business school teaching shorthand and typing.
