A maker of water infrastructure and drilling services, Layne Christensen drilled high-volume water wells, installed pumps, rehabilitated wells, and provided water treatment for municipalities and industry, along with geotechnical work like jet grouting and ground freezing for dams and tunnels. The company was formed in 1996 when two drilling firms merged — Layne, Inc., whose roots trace to 1882 when homesteader Mahlon Layne built his own rigs after finding no water on his Kansas land, and Christensen Boyles. That frontier frustration became a name that defined over a century of finding water.
