Hudson City Bancorp, Inc.

A New Jersey savings-bank holding company whose main business was collecting deposits and funding home mortgages through Hudson City Savings Bank, once the largest savings bank headquartered in the state. It traces its roots to 1868, when New Jersey's legislature chartered the bank to serve the then-independent town of Hudson City, later swallowed up by Jersey City. A fun quirk: even after its namesake town vanished from the map, the bank kept the old name for more than a century until M&T Bank bought it in 2015.
