Rofin-Sinar Technologies Inc

A Hamburg-based maker of industrial lasers that cut, weld, mark, and engrave metal for carmakers, electronics, and medical-device factories. It was born in 1975 when a startup named Sinar—Sanskrit for "beam of light"—bought a British firm called Rofin and took on both names. Fun quirk: its "Sinar" moniker was already used by a Swiss camera company, and it began by reselling others' lasers before building its own in 1982.
