A healthcare diagnostics company that uses nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) to count and size cholesterol-carrying particles in the blood, going beyond a traditional cholesterol panel. Founded in 1997 in Raleigh, North Carolina, it was first incorporated as LipoMed before renaming itself LipoScience in 2002 — a nod to "lipid science." Its signature NMR LipoProfile test and Vantera analyzer help doctors gauge heart risk, and the firm was later folded into LabCorp in 2014.
