Avg Technologies N.v.
A cybersecurity company whose antivirus software guards personal computers and devices, with free basic protection and paid premium versions used by home users and businesses around the world. It began in 1991 in Brno, Czechoslovakia, when Jan Gritzbach and Tomáš Hofer launched a business called Grisoft that sold IT gear and an antivirus program named Anti-Virus Guard — the initials "AVG" stuck so completely that the company renamed itself after the product in 2008. The software started out for the DOS operating system before antivirus protection became a household concern.
