Capitalsource Inc
A commercial lender that grew into one of the largest finance companies in the United States, CapitalSource lent money to small and middle-market businesses that traditional banks often turned away, pairing its nationwide lending platform with its own FDIC-insured bank. It was founded in 2000 by entrepreneur John Delaney, who named the company after its core business: being a direct "source of capital" for underserved borrowers. Delaney later left finance for politics, serving as a U.S. Congressman before returning to run a bank focused on clean-energy lending.
