Arbitron Inc
A maker of audience-measurement technology, Arbitron was for decades the main provider of radio ratings in the United States. Founded in 1949 by Jim Seiler as the American Research Bureau, it took its name from the "Arbitron" computer system that tracked TV viewing over telephone lines in the 1960s. It later invented the Portable People Meter, a wearable pager-like device that silently captures which stations listeners hear, and it lives on today as Nielsen Audio after its 2013 acquisition.
