Crexus Investment Corp.
A real estate investment trust that financed commercial properties — hotels, offices and industrial buildings — by lending mezzanine and subordinate debt, first mortgages and buying commercial mortgage-backed securities, stepping in where banks left a "funding gap." CreXus was set up in 2009 after the financial crisis by Annaly Capital Management, whose subsidiary ran it from the start. Its stylized name echoed Crixus, the curly-haired Gallic gladiator who fought alongside Spartacus. It was folded into its parent in 2013 and renamed Annaly Commercial Real Estate Group.
