Harris Teeter Supermarkets, Inc.
A grocery store chain across the southern United States, Harris Teeter fills its aisles with national brands plus its own private labels like the premium Private Selection and the organic-focused Simple Truth. It began when two North Carolina grocers — W.T. Harris, who opened his Charlotte market in the 1930s, and Willis Teeter, whose family ran a food mart in Mooresville — merged their shops in 1960, giving the company its hyphen-free name from both founders. Now a Kroger subsidiary, it keeps its own name and headquarters in Matthews, North Carolina.
