Palomar Medical Technologies, Inc.
A maker of the lasers and light-based devices that dermatologists and med spas use for hair removal, skin resurfacing, and clearing vascular blemishes. Founded in 1987 as Dymed Corporation by a group of investors, the Massachusetts company renamed itself Palomar in 1991 to sound more medically sophisticated, and later won early FDA clearance for a high-powered hair-removal laser. Its StarLux and Icon platforms became fixtures in clinics, and the company was bought by Cynosure in 2013.
